Great miso soup. Wife loved the sushi and sashimi. I had the terriaki chicken bowl. Both were great. Service was fast and friendly. We look forward to going back again.

This place is bad every time I come here. Quite honestly I feel stupid every time I try to give them another chance. There is always a ridiculous amount of rice on the rolls, they are WAY over priced (including the sashimi) and the fish is never fresh. In fact, last time I went the albacore literally SMELLED! Take your time and drive somewhere else. Sushi King SUCKS.

I wasn't wholly impressed with the sushi here. It was average but nothing knocked my socks off. If I'm craving a quick sushi fix I will come here because it's close to my house, but it's not my first choice for sushi in the ABQ/RR area. This location is pretty small but not overcrowded, the waitress was pretty inattentive and the whole experience was pretty "meh". The monkey balls were delish though.

Service was great! Sushi was tasty-delightful experience overall! Love that there's a spot for sushi in Rio Rancho!

I don't recognize anybody anymore. In 2-3 weeks everyone was gone. We went there 1-2 times a week, maybe we have to find new spot or drive downtown where O is at. A good sushi place is about the fish, a great one is about the chef and staff...

I live nearby and while Sushi in NM is sub par to that of the coastal states. Sushi King is very good and the head chef O will make you custom items if you ask. He will also be honest with you about what is fresh. I always ask what's special that day and attempt to try it each time.

Food was good, but music was club music blasting way to loud. Didn't allow for a relaxing lunch.

I live in the westside of town. You can pretty much throw a rock at Rio Rancho from my house. My wife and I had a date night and we were celebrating my Birthday. We had some drinks at a nearby tap room. I won't say the name but it rhymes with gargle. You can do the math. After a few drinks I wanted to try out a sushi place that was clear across town. Believe me when you live on the westside of town anything 2 miles away feels like clear across town. I remember seeing this place because we have pretty much gone to every business around it and never Sushi King. I pulled out my trusty mobile Yelp app to see what the reviews were like. I found out they have several locations and the reviews were hit and miss. I am by no means a sushi expert. Just as long as the fish doesn't smell bad I am usually a happy camper. We walked in around 7, the restaurant had a few people in it for a Wednesday. It wasn't packed but it's also a small space. We found our seat at the sushi bar. The Sushi chef that was serving us was helpful and the our waitress was all over our drinks. I actually think I took 2 drinks and she filled my cup. I am not complaining I love when this happens. We were talking to the chef and asking a few questions about the rolls and certain sauces. We are from Las Vegas, NV where sushi places are everywhere! I know, shocker, huh? There isn't even a coast. When I was talking to the chef the other sushi chef who seemed to be the manager asked if he wanted them to make anything special. I asked if they serve a Hawaiian dish that we got in Vegas all the time called Poke tuna. He said I don't have it on the menu, but I can make it for you. This is what separates 5 star restaurant reviews. I wasn't sure what to expect. When he finished my special request. It was incredible. It was the piece of Las Vegas that I had been craving for months. We also ordered a couple rolls too. They were prepared well and the fish was fresh. The service was awesome and the prices were reasonable. I have to admit I didn't go in thinking this was a 5 star restaurant but the staff here was great and the food even better. If you are in the area check this place out! Cheers!

Great food! Loved the Popcorn Roll (fried lobster on top of a California roll) Really good choice for Sushi on the Westside/Rio Rancho Gets the Triple F (fast fresh and friendly) Will be back again soon. :)

Great place for a quick sushi fix! Try the monkey balls and gyoza to start. The gryffandor roll has become my go to roll and the popcorn roll is a group favorite. Great service as well everytime I've come.

All the Sushi King locations are great. Super-fresh ingredients, friendly and attentive staff, and an extensive menu gets this place five stars. This is, by far, one of the best sushi places in town. Try their unique specialty rolls if you're looking for something a little different, and sit at the sushi bar if you feel like chatting it up with a friendly (and often times highly entertaining) sushi chef.

The service was great. The food was only average. Spicy Tuna roll was good size and was good enough but not the best in town, sushi was good. If you are on this side of town this is a decent choice.

The sushi there is a work of art...just watch how they make one of their boats. Fresh ingredients. Not the most friendly wait staff. The counter is way better service. Pricey.

I just ordered take-out from here for a nice New Year's Eve dinner with the family. I will never eat here again. It was not good. Rolls were cut large and out of proportion. My salmon nigiri tasted like plastic - and the salmon is my favorite! I do not recommend it!

Staff was welcoming, but the food was not. I ordered the tuna and futomaki. While they looked nice on the plate, the rice was hard and dry and the nori could barely stay wrapped around the rice. The taste was just "ok and I've had better." We also ordered some other sushi but they were also just ok, except that the rice wasn't as hard as mine, so maybe it came from the other rice cooker. Still, with that bunch of sushi, the nori couldn't stay wrapped around the rice and some just fell apart. Wish I could give it more stars, but I can't and won't do it. Not returning to this Sushi King in Rio Rancho. I'll probably go try the other ones in town when I get the chance.

I started going to Sushi King when I came for a job interview to Albuquerque in 2008. I loved the chefs and when we moved here we came to SK every week. We have our own chopsticks downtown and when you sit at the sushi bar Kit (downtown) takes excellent care of you. The waitstaff is very attentive and will become your friend, remembering your name and knowing what you like. It makes the experience excellent, easy and fun. Oh (RioRancho) is THE best sushi chef in town. He knows, most importantly, how to slice fish in the proper way. The guys will always give you suggestions as to what to get, what's fresh from that day, and ask your opinion. These gentlemen are humble, unique and great guys. There are options for the non-sushi lovers, they serve beer and wine, sake, etc. I enjoy the salmon, white tuna, albacore, scallop, and the other sushi (ebi, crab, etc.) They have traditional rolls as well as new and fun rolls and will custom make any kind of roll you would like. They have fresh ingredients and honest staff. We now primarily go to the Rio Rancho location. But I have been to the Downtown, Westside, Paseo, and Rio Rancho locations. The owner Kathy runs a tight ship and does an excellent job. Recommend this place to anyone.

I thought moving to New Mexico would make it ext to impossible to find good sushi. Luckily, I was wrong. When we got there I noticed most (maybe all) of the tables were filled -the restaurant is small. We took a seat at the bar. The sushi chef was very friendly. I looked at the menu for familiar and favorite rolls. I thought the prices were steep for basic rolls (like the dragon roll). I'm used to all you can eat sushi places so, I took a few extra minutes studying the rolls. I first decided on a vegan roll. I should admit I'm a "fake" sushi eater. I was very happy when it came out. It was big, fresh and tasty. My husband and I ordered another roll or two and he was able to order a custom poke bowl. The rolls were enormous and everything was delicious. Being a "fake" sushi eater I didn't think I'd like the poke (spicy, garlicky tuna) but, I loved it! We ordered mochi to finish out the night. I felt very satisfied and full from our meal. When I peeked at the bill I was pleasantly surprised too. It didn't seem like we ordered much, but our tummy's were happy and the price was right!. Usually sushi is a special treat for my husband that I don't agree to often, but I think I'll happily accompany him when he is (and I may even) craving sushi.

I haven't eaten at Sushi King for a while, so when I saw it on my way home I thought I'd stop. Wow... That was a mistake! The fish wasn't fresh, the sushi was poorly put together, and the flavor was terrible. Add to that the fact that it was overpriced and it added insult to injury. I wouldn't eat there again if someone else was paying for it! About the only plus was that the service was friendly and the staff is polite. There are plenty of other sushi bars I would rather go to whose product is considerably better! Samurai Sushi here I come!!

Customer service, outstanding! Food, it really depends on your chef. I have been here 3 times, and each time it was a different experience. The first time was mind blowing, the second time, disapointing, and third, it was mediocore. As if it almost tasted like it came out of a container. Not planning on coming back for the prices charged. Maybe they should consider doing a happy hour.

I had vegetable tempura and beef noodles, Japanese style. Wife had the happy roll and soft shell crab. Both good, but it came to nearly $40. Good, but pricey!

Man, I really wish the quality of the sushi rolls were consistent. The last time I ordered from Sushi King, one roll completely disintegrated before I could even make my soy sauce mixture. Major bummer. I checked it off as a fluke thing because, hey, even sushi guys have off days. Once again, I attempted sushi rolls from them because they're just down the road from me, so the convenience is definitely a major plus. Alas, both of the rolls I ordered disintegrated/unrolled like a Turkish rug and the salmon maki roll was...uh...questionable. I say "questionable" because the salmon smelled foul...REALLY foul. I ended up throwing it out because it was just ACHING to give me food poisoning, which I had absolutely no desire to receive. I definitely didn't get my monies worth. Lesson learned.
